Felicia Day

ARG! I swear to god if I see this fake picture as Felicia Day one more time, I am personally going to stalk every one of you to get your address, show up and give you a good slap, then making you watch every project/show/movie she has been a part of until you can recognize her.

…. there should be more burl ives songs in Fallout NV

Maybe it is just me, but whenever I play Fallout NV and the song “Big Iron” comes on…. I am convinced as hell they are singing “Burl Ives, Burl Ives” to the point I had to look it up ha ha And no, it is not about the american actor/singer, sadly.

Insert creative title: Some days I really need a dislike button for the internet

patzw:

Apparently, someone (or a group of someones) decided today was the perfect day to perform a massive influx of Felicia Day hate on her latest Flog segment. The first few hours after the video was posted there were mostly positive responses. No, not everyone liked the song, or the fact it was…

holla holla get $: meadowlakest: asmoron: That Felicia Day whore needs to be publicly...

actionhank:

meadowlakest:

asmoron:

That Felicia Day whore needs to be publicly executed for her crimes.

Why bother with more killing? You just sliced the neck of feminism and bled her dry like a pig, with that remark. Congrats, on spreading decades more of oppression.

wait, I dont understand. how is Felicia Day in any way a pioneer for feminism? she’s like Olivia Munn in the very limited, very short-lived shit spectrum of popular female “icons” in the video game industry except Olivia Munn is on the “I’m just a whore who’s cashing in on horny frat boys looking away from their game of Modern Warfare for a second to ogle my bum that I’m so desperately flashing at them” and Felicia Day is the on the opposite end of that spectrum, the end that says “I’m catering to the smaller niche of fat nerds who start hyperventilating the moment they sign out of their World of Warcraft game since they don’t know anything about interacting in the real world and I can very much relate since I’m a fat nerd in the body of a cute plucky girl”

Actually this reply had very little to do with the actual topic of Felicia Day. I was talking about the histrionic and polarizing speech women use against other women, or men use about women to insult their worth with no actual good reasons, other than being a curmudgeon. Whether you like Felicia or not is actually irrelevant. It’s just unfortunate that she is the beacon calendar girl of the year to get shat on. The problem, is, and always has been how terrible we treat each other… especially in the gamer community as females. Maybe it’s different now, but decades past the landscape was far different. But to have your only talking point as ‘whore’, is pointless.

felicia day: the mary sue files

I have written once before about the negative press that Felicia seems to get. I think the comic “Y: Last Man” sums up a lot of these issues. We as women gripe and complain about how the ‘man’ is keeping us down (and yes, he DOES)… but we as women are some of the most disrespectful, judging and finicky people when it comes to women ourselves. We are too quick, too eager and all too willing to cut down every single part of ourselves. This can be seen easily, in the world of ‘geekdom’. I am tired of these endless rants bout qualifying if one is ‘geek enough’ to belong. As if there is some litmus test, or branding that the ‘pure ones’ somehow have or are entitled to. I think the biggest laugh track of it all, is when people say people like Felicia Day are faking being a gamer. It is ridiculous, and if anyone spent some time off their ass…. you’d see she was. But I think this speaks to a deeper dissidence between women, especially in the community. I think we should be happy, that no matter who, or how… that we are made accessible. I grew up in a time when being a geek, or a girl gamer was a dirty word. Now, we are at the point that we no longer need to point us out as ‘girl gamers’…. we can just be gamers now. Felicia Day has helped pioneer that… and I think it should be commended. Whether you like her or not, that is a little irrelevant… but there is a face now, an opportunity that I never had as a young girl. She has earned her place, and so can everyone else now without the brutal agony of decades past.

As for Mary Sue…. I think this whole trope, or should we say meme has run it’s course. It’s actually funny now to think of it: Mary Sue has become Mary Sue herself. It is almost amusing the way people use words, or ideas, without really knowing much about the context. In fact, i think it is refreshing. For once, we can see a strong leading lady without the obvious Amazon references and cliches that we get tossed like a bone in the vein of ie Michelle Rodriguez. Or a good looking woman, who isn’t an unintelligible stock character in a Michael Bay film. I think we are too quick to pin the whore/virgin complex into characters —- this constantly abrasive rubbing of the two, as if something new will come out. Why is someone a ‘Mary Sue’, when they are both confident and flawed? Why can’t women be successful in more than one area in their life? Why are we so enraged when you see a well rounded individual? It’s tiresome, and hardly does anything for our liberties and progression as women.

Just food for thought.

I don’t like mousy weak damsel in distress women

atheyna:

So I don’t get why people are obsessed with Felicia Day because most (MOST) of the characters she plays are the same person (her). Although she was a little more likeable at Dragon con last year…

I wouldn’t mind someone explaining this to me.

I actually think all of Felicia’s characters have been an exemplary in strong female empowerment. You have Vi, in Buffy the Vampire who started off meek and morphed into one of the strongest potential slayers with ultimate confidence. You have her character in Dollhouse, who is a strong willed no-nonsense female character. You have her in Dragon Age: Redemption in which she is a kick ass assassin who knows who she is, and what she stands for. You have her playing Charlie in supernatural as a gamer chick who isn’t afraid of going against the grain. You have her as Codex/Cyd in The Guild, who learns to be strong and become a better person.

I think you are mistaking complicated characters, who aren’t a stereotype of Michelle Rodriguez tropes, as weak. Felicia creates well rounded female characters who have flaws… like all of us. Yes, Cyd may have fleeting moments when she is unsure of herself, but when it comes down to the crunch… you realize her true confidence. With the exception of Penny, I think you are missing the point of a lot of her realistically human characters, unfortunately :(

Bioware fans

I love Bioware… I have been a fan since their humble beginning… but I am sorry, I hate the large bulk of their fans. A large sector of their fan base are the most petulant, spoiled, self-serving, entitled whiny children I have ever met. I have seen more graces from small children, then I have from them. Dragon Age II was just the start of their annoyances, culminating in the Mass Effect 3 kerfuffle. The company does not owe you a dime because you did not get an ending of ice cream, rainbows and walks of hand in hand on the beach. Calling Better Business Bureau? Creating Boycotts? What kind of Tom Foolery is this? You are not entitled to anything, and just because you have a certain head cannon does not mean the company has to go and create a new ending because you can’t act like an adult. Sure, the ending had it’s drawbacks, but, what about the indoctrination theory? I believe that to be clever.

Look, I get it… I spent hundreds of hours with my Sheppard. I formed relationships like everyone else, that after time feel like real bonds. But when the day is done… it’s a game. A game that by more standards than any other game company out there, has sparked my imagination. But, Bioware fans, the lot of us need to pull on our big girl panties and take it like an adult.

RPG?!?!

Does anyone know of some good Whedonverse rpg communities? More specifically (but not limited to) insanejournal? Looking for a good community and premise to bring a Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion or Wil Wheaton.

Comment if you know some. Too much of a long shot?

For being a Thane, Lydia is a complete moron.

LMFAO. YES. Me and my boyfriend, tried to come up with the most inventive ways to kill her ha ha. So far, to get her to hit a guard by inciting one, then, taking out her knee caps, so she can never be an adventurer again lol I hate the followers sooo much. I gave up using them; always gave away my rogue position.
